The Repertory Ensemble and Junior Repertory Ensemble will perform for patients at Children’s Hospital and Medical Center in Omaha at 4:30 pm this Thursday, May 17. A collaboration between Ballet Nebraska and its rehearsal studio Motion 41 Dance, the ensembles present selected works at local venues throughout the season. Ballet Nebraska company dancer Bret Samson was on hand April 15 to conduct the final of a series of workshops offered by Ballet Nebraska throughout the season. Bret spent an engaging Sunday afternoon at the ballet’s rehearsal studios at Motion 41 Dance in the company of some lively young Girl Scouts from several troops throughout the Omaha and Lincoln area. There is nothing scarier than a blood shortage. Dracula and his Vampire Brides teamed up on October 24 with the American Red Cross to make a donation to the blood bank – rather than a withdrawal. Millard Public Library was the setting this time for the Red Cross and Omaha Public Library’s monthly ‘Read and Bleed’ blood drive. Ballet Nebraska participated in the “Dance for a Chance” fundraiser for Youth Emergency Services — an event supporting homeless youth — on Saturday, August 27th. BN ballet master Matthew Carter was paired with celebrity contestant Haley Herold, Miss Nebraska USA 2011, and BN artistic director Erika Overturff was paired with celebrity contestant Jim Flannery, head coach of Creighton Women’s Basketball. In addition to the celebrity dance contest, the evening included a reception, silent auction items, raffle prizes, and a special dance appearance by Ballet Nebraska. For more information, click here.
