Who is that guest star with the cold, wet nose?

In 2013, Ballet Nebraska and the Nebraska Humane Society created the “Muttcracker” program to promote the adoption of shelter pets. At each of Ballet Nebraska’s performances of The Nutcracker, a shelter dog is a featured guest star in the grand Christmas Party scene. The Muttcracker guest stars are specially selected by the Humane Society’s animal behavior specialists for their loving personalities and calm stage presence as they share the spotlight with the company’s professional dancers. Ballet Nebraska celebrates a longstanding dance-art collaboration with Joslyn Art Museum this summer. Sunday, June 23 – Ballet Nebraska dancers performed Bacchanale Variations at Joslyn’s Family Fun Day – a free event offered several times a year by the art museum. Making ballet accessible for everyone has been part of Ballet Nebraska’s mission since our inception just a few short years ago.  This includes introducing ballet to young audiences and welcoming groups to our shows who would otherwise be unable to attend a professional ballet performance. Over the past three seasons, Ballet Nebraska has provided outreach tickets to many community organizations including Heartland Family Services, Girls Inc., Children’s Corner, Ronald McDonald House, Boys and Girls Clubs, ENCOR, Ollie Webb and many others. In celebration of the rich culture and traditions of Japan, Ballet Nebraska will present an excerpt from Matthew Carter’s original ballet Sadako at the 7th Annual Japanese Ambience Festival Oct. 6 and 7 at Lauritzen Gardens.
