Joslyn performances introduce Omahans to Ballet Nebraska

Ballet Nebraska’s official season doesn’t open until October 2 — but Omahans have been getting a sneak preview of their new professional dance company at Joslyn Art Museum. Ballet Nebraska company members Natasha Grimm and Matthew Carter performed an excerpt from Carter’s 2007 ballet French Songs as part of the museum’s program BONSOIR: AN EVENING OF FRENCH WINE, DANCE, & DESIGN on July 8. Announcing Ballet Nebraska II

Ballet Nebraska II serves as a training ground for those highly motivated ballet dancers interested in pursuing a professional career in dance.  These advanced dancers will be exposed to life in a professional ballet company, including audition, rehearsal, and performance opportunities.  BN II members are selected by audition. Auditions will be held on Tuesday, June 15th at 7:30 pm and on Thursday, September 2nd at 8:00 pm at the Motion41 studios.  Be prepared to demonstrate pointe work and performance quality.  Good luck! Omaha documentary filmmaker Lance Glenn has begun work on a film about Ballet Nebraska’s beginnings, and sent us this “teaser” trailer. We’ll keep you posted on further developments on Lance’s project!

Ballet Nebraska is thrilled to assist with Nutcracker at the Orpheum: The Nutcracker, an Omaha holiday tradition, has found new life thanks to collaboration between Omaha Performing Arts and The Rose Theater. Together they will present Aspen Santa Fe Ballet’s The Nutcracker at the Orpheum Theater Friday, December 3 through Sunday, December 5, 2010.
